Common Causes of Knee Pain
Bursitis
In every human, there is a sac(bursa) beneath the skin and above the joint, this sac contains a small amount of fluid that helps to inhibit friction when the joints are in motion. When we fall or continuously bend and kneel, it causes irritation to the bursa which can lead to pain and swelling.

When your kneecap dislodges from its original position, it is called a dislocated kneecap, this can lead to knee pain and swelling.
IT (iliotibial) band syndrome
The iliotibial is an extended piece of tissue that connects your hip down to the outer part of the knee. When we involve in rigorous activities, it can cause an inflammation on the tissue which will lead to pain on the outer side of the knee.
Meniscal tear
When we develop a knee injury, it can cause the cartilage to rip. The rough edges created by this cartilage can get stuck in the joint, this can cause swelling and pain.
Osgood-Schlatter disease
When we are young, our bones and other parts of the knee continues to change, during this process, we may experience a painful bump below the knee.
Osteoarthritis
This is the major cause of knee pain on people within age 50. This type of arthritis makes the knee joint to experience severe pain and ache especially when you are active. It sometimes causes stiffness of the joint during the early hours of the day.
Treatments of Knee Pain
Rest your knee: Take a break from intense activities.
Compress your knee: Use equipment such as bandage or straps to wrap the joint, it will reduce the swelling.
Take anti-inflammatory medications: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) will aid to reduce the pain and swelling. Drugs such as ibuprofen or naproxen will assist.
Surgery: When the pain becomes more severe and you find it more difficult to use climb the stairs or even stand from a chair, and medications or physical therapy isn’t working, then it may be time to consider a knee replacement surgery.
